Straight answer

How Long Does It Take to Write a Custom Song?

About an hour from an instant AI service. Four to seven days from a songwriter working alone. Two to three weeks once a studio singer has to be booked.

Rounds of changes you expect to ask for

You have until 13 November before the first option closes.

Example

An example: a date 45 days out, delivered as a link, with one round of changes. Put your own date in above to replace it.

  • AI, generated while you wait

    Order by 20 December

Safe · 45 days spare · same day

Songoven states delivery within 1 hour of purchase. SongMemento returns a preview in about 30 seconds and the full song in under a minute. Regenerating costs no extra days, which is why revision rounds do not move this row.

  • AI, with a checked pass before it reaches you

    Order by 16 December

Safe · 41 days spare · 4 days to make and deliver

Melodfy states 72 hours as standard with a 24-hour express option, and caps changes at three. MyForeverSong states 48 hours with unlimited revisions. The rush row uses the 24-hour express figure.

  • A songwriter working alone

    Order by 7 December

Safe · 32 days spare · 13 days to make and deliver

Songfinch states a 7-day standard and lets you pick any date inside 1 to 7 days, with 24 hours possible from select artists rather than as a paid tier. SongGifted states 4 days standard. Custom Song Gift states 2 days. The six days per round of changes is the part services do not advertise: a Songfinch reviewer advises budgeting 5 to 7 extra days for a wording change, and Songfinch support quoted another customer 4 to 7 days for one revision.

  • A songwriter plus a booked studio vocalist

    Order by 13 November

Safe · 8 days spare · 37 days to make and deliver

Three named sources converge here without agreeing exactly: Tom Shaw states 15 to 30 days, Adam Lewis around 4 weeks from receiving your story, Supreme Tracks 2 to 3 weeks. We found no rush tier at this level in any of them. Adam Lewis also states the constraint the gift services leave out: the arrangement, melody and performance cannot be altered once production begins, so the real deadline is the last day a change is still possible, not the delivery date.

The Advertised Number Is the First-Draft Number

Every service we checked publishes a delivery time, and every one of those figures measures the same thing: how long until the first version lands. None of them publishes what happens after you read it and want a word changed.

The gap is not small. A Songfinch reviewer who liked the song enough to leave five stars still tells people to factor in five to seven extra days in case you want some words changed, and Songfinch support quoted a different customer four to seven days for a single revision. Against a seven-day advertised song, one wording change is what turns it into a twelve to fourteen day song. That second number is the one your date cares about, and it appears on nobody's pricing page.

Two services say as much in their own words, from opposite directions. SongGifted writes that your turnaround begins when the order and story details are complete, which puts the evening you spend trying to describe your mother in a text box outside the clock entirely. MyForeverSong advertises 48 hours and then advises ordering three to four days ahead to account for revision time.

So the sum to plan against is the headline number, plus your own thinking time, plus however long a round of changes takes, plus the post if anything physical is involved. That is what the checker adds up. The one number in it we could not source cleanly is the length of a revision round on the studio route, where we use a week; the six days on the songwriter route come from the two Songfinch figures above. It is also why the row for a studio-recorded song moves so much when you switch the revision rounds from none to two: on that route a round of changes means getting a booked vocalist back, not editing a file.

Every figure in that table was read off the page of the service it describes, on 7 August 2026, and each one is quoted in full at the bottom of this page. Where a service would not load a price or a policy in a plain browser, we left it out rather than filling the gap from a review site.

Where the Days Actually Go

SongGifted lists lyric writing, melody development, recording, editing, mixing and final delivery as separate steps. It does not say which of them takes longest, and neither will we. What we will say, as our own reading, is that the handovers look like the expensive part: a lyric can be drafted in an evening, while a vocalist with a free session this week is a scheduling problem, and scheduling problems are the ones that move a date.

Working musicians describe the same shape from the supply side. In a thread on r/Songwriting about hiring someone for a custom song, a commenter answered a gift buyer like this:

You want someone to write and perform and record and produce a song on commission for you? Any serious artist is going to charge you several thousand dollars per song for that. Many hours of creative work involved.

That is one working musician on one thread, not a survey. It does not explain any particular provider's quoted time. It does suggest that a two-week figure has hours behind it rather than padding.

It is also how we model the two AI routes differently. Generation on request has no person waiting in it, so the checker adds no days for a round of changes. A service that puts a human check between generation and delivery has a person in the loop again, and that is what the checker treats as the difference between an hour and three days. That is a modelling choice, not a claim about how any particular service is staffed.

There is a harder version of this on the studio route. Adam Lewis, who writes custom wedding songs under his own name, states that the arrangement, melody and final performance cannot be altered once production begins. On that route the deadline that binds you is not the delivery date at all. It is the last day a change is still possible, and it falls weeks earlier.

One thing we still cannot tell you: how long a revision round adds on the studio route specifically. None of the studio sources publish one. MyForeverSong offers unlimited revisions without saying what each costs in time; Melodfy caps changes at three and is equally silent. The week the checker uses there is our own figure, and it is the number in this tool we would most like to replace with a sourced one.

If Your Date Is Inside a Week

Which routes survive depends on the exact day, which is what the checker is for. What holds across the whole week is the shape: paying for a rush tier can reopen a songwriter route, and cannot reopen a studio one, because a rush fee compresses the making and does not conjure a free session. It does nothing at all for the post. If the gift has to arrive in an envelope, the envelope becomes the binding constraint: USPS puts international post at six to ten business days, which lands somewhere between eight and fourteen calendar days depending on how many weekends the parcel has to cross.

The move that actually works inside a week is to change what you are delivering rather than who is delivering it. A song that exists today as a link, played on a phone at the table, beats a better song that arrives on the Tuesday after. If you want the studio version as well, order it afterwards. The same story can usually be briefed again, and the second version then lands as its own gift rather than as a late one.

When the Extra Weeks Buy Something

They buy a human performance, and that is a real thing to want. Whether a trained singer holding a note sounds different to you from a generated one is a judgement we are not going to make on your behalf, but plenty of people care about it, and on a first dance or a memorial it may be the entire point. If the date is far enough out that three weeks carries no risk, the slower route is not the worse choice.

What extra production time does not do on its own is improve a weak brief. The detail that makes a song land is the one you supply, and you supply it to a form either way. We would rather say that plainly than imply the only difference is patience: a brief of three generic lines is still three generic lines when it comes back sung, and on the slow route you wait two weeks to find that out.

Questions

How long does it take to write a custom song?

It depends far more on who is making it than on the song. An instant AI service returns something the same day: Songoven states delivery within one hour of purchase. A songwriter working alone runs two to seven days: Songfinch states a 7-day standard with any date inside 1 to 7 days selectable, SongGifted states 4 days, Custom Song Gift states 2. A songwriter plus a booked studio vocalist runs 15 to 30 days, where Tom Shaw, Adam Lewis and Supreme Tracks all land. An AI service with a human checking pass sits in between at one to three days, and revisions sit on top of all four.

Can I get a custom song in 24 hours?

Yes, on the AI routes. Songoven states delivery within an hour with no rush fee. Of the human services we could read, SongGifted sells 24 hours as a paid rush tier rather than a standard option, and says it has to be available when you order. For a studio-recorded song we found no rush tier at all in these sources, and MyForeverSong states outright that next-day delivery is not available.

Does the advertised turnaround include revisions?

Two of the services we read imply not. SongGifted notes that your turnaround begins when the order and story details are complete, which puts your own thinking time outside the clock. MyForeverSong suggests ordering three to four days early to account for revision time, on top of a 48-hour headline figure. Neither says outright that revisions fall outside the advertised window, so treating them as extra is our planning assumption rather than their stated policy. It is the assumption the checker uses.

How long does Songfinch take?

Four to seven days as standard, with a paid rush option down to about two. That is the figure we recorded when we last checked Songfinch in July 2026 and published on our service comparison page. Its own storefront would not render a turnaround figure for us on 7 August 2026, so we have not refreshed it here. The gap between an advertised time and a delivered one is real elsewhere in this market: Songlorious advertises as fast as 24 hours, while the reviews we read in July reported seven to fourteen days.

What takes the most time in a custom song?

Waiting on people, not the writing. On the human routes the lyric can be drafted in an evening; what stretches the calendar is the vocalist having a free session, the mix coming back, and each round of changes making that queue happen again. SongGifted lists lyric writing, melody development, recording, editing, mixing and final delivery as separate steps, and every handover between them is a queue.

How far in advance should I order for a birthday or wedding?

Take the route you want, add the rounds of changes you honestly expect, then add the post if anything physical is involved. A studio-recorded song with one round of changes, posted overseas, comes out at fifty-one days on the slow end of this model. An instant AI song delivered as a link is today; the same song with a human checking pass is one to three days. The checker above does that arithmetic against your specific date rather than a general rule.

Where These Numbers Come From

Each line below was read off the page it links to on the date shown, and is quoted rather than summarised. Two services are missing from it on purpose. Neither Songfinch nor Songlorious would render a turnaround figure for us on 7 August 2026, so neither has a quote here. Where this page names their timings, the figures come from our own July 2026 check and are published in full on the service comparison page. Nothing on this page is estimated to fill a gap: where we could not read a number, we have said so instead.
